Pál Pusztai’s most famous creation was JUCIKA, who made her public debut on the pages of Érdekes Ujság, a short-lived entertaining magazine. The young, black-haired, curvaceous, free-spirited lady constantly found herself in funny or awkward situations with ever-changing modern attire, admirers, professions and whims.
She often appeared in flimsy clothing or even nude, many strips were about how she reacted to men’s desired or undesired attention, how she used her sharp mind and beauty to reach her goals or to help others.
Although Jucika is over 60, this age is hardly noticeable, as her adventures are just as entertaining as in the late ‘50s. Her character and comic strips were recently rediscovered and became an international sensation, breeding a devoted fandom on the internet. Her character was always accompanied by a certain mystery, topped by language barriers and the lack of publications outside Hungary. Not only is this the very first book collecting all the comic strips from 1957-1958, but also Jucika’s first starring role in English.
